New House Roof Oakridge Estate Gray Shingles and SBS Rolled Roofing Installed in Denver, CO

We installed a roof on this house earlier in October 2017 in Denver, CO with Owens Corning Oakridge Estate Gray shingles. The low slope portion on the back and front of the roof was covered using an SBS modified rolled roofing by Polyglass to meet city code. Even though the SBS is made by a different manufacturer, Polyglass did a good job getting close with their granule colors.

Owens Corning’s Oakridge roof house shingles are popular in Denver. They are a step-up from their basic 3-tab shingles yet still affordable. They offer a Limited Lifetime warranty and a 110/130MPH wind resistance warranty. If you’re not in a part of Colorado that gets pounded by hail or strong winds, Owens Corning’s Oakridge line of asphalt shingles are good choice.

If you are in an area of Denver that does get hail, Owens Corning has more hail resistant shingle options.

Their TruDefinition Duration shingle line is Class-3 hail impact resistant (Class-4 is best). These shingles are a little more expensive than their Oakridge, but offer a higher wind resistance. They also include Owens Corning’s SureNail technology. That’s the nail line on the shingles. It helps hold the shingles down in the wind.

Want an even stronger asphalt shingle? OC’s TruDefinition Duration Flex and Storm are Class-4 hail impact rated. This is the highest hail resistance rating a shingle can achieve. If you live in a part of Denver that gets multiple hail storms every year, either of these asphalt shingles will serve you well. What’s more, they last longer. Less shingles only last 10-15 years. OC’s Duration Flex or Storm shingles usually last 20-25 years if regularly maintained.

The Ultimate Shingle?

If you’re wanting the ultimate roofing shingle, one that’s the most durable and lasts the longest, ask us about stone-coated steel shingles. These shingles have a metal foundation instead a fiberglass foundation that traditional asphalt shingles have. Steel is much stronger than fiberglass. Stone-coated steel shingles usually last 70 years or more. Another nice thing about them is, they look just like traditional asphalt shingles until you get up-close. They’re also recyclable in Denver and more energy-efficient.
