Cleaning your gutters regularly is a part of homeownership. Whether you do it yourself, or your hire someone else to do, your gutters should be cleaned-out at least once a year to ensure the lifespan of your gutters and to prevent damage to your home or its foundation.
To minimize gutter cleaning, there are various gutter guard products available. Some are available at your local big store, such as Ace and Lowe’s. Many are also available online. We offer the Leaf Blaster and Gutter Screen EZ Lock gutter guard systems. As a professional roofing and gutter company in Colorado, we find these gutter guard systems straightforward, effective, durable, and affordable.
What Are Gutter Guards? What Do They Do?
A gutter guard is a filter that helps keep large debris, such as leaves and bird nests out of your gutter while still allowing water to flow through your gutters. There are many types of gutter guards available today. They are either an insert that is installed in your gutters, or a cover for your gutters.
LeafBlaster Pro
The LeafBlaster Pro is a stainless steel micro-mesh gutter guard system that not only keeps out pine needles, leaves, twigs, and other large debris, they claim it also keeps out roof grit, such as small asphalt shingle granules. Because it’s made from stainless steel, it won’t warp, crack, or rust. LeafBlaster Pro works with either 5″ or 6″ gutters.
EZ Lock Gutter Guard
The EZ Lock Gutter Guard system is made from powder-coated steel and is available in a variety of screens, such as small hole, regular hole, step-down or ez-under. It comes in 4′ lengths and either 5″, 6″, or 7″ depths. One nice feature of the EZ Lock gutter guard system is that it’s more DIY-friendly in that you can easily remove a section if you need to clean your gutter.
Pros and Cons
Pros of Gutter Guards
- They really do keep debris, such as leaves, twigs, birds, etc. out of your gutters
- They really do reduce, but not completely eliminate, gutter cleaning
- Because they’re made from durable aluminum or steel, they often last 20 years or more. Other gutter guard systems, such as foam or plastic systems, only last a few years.
Cons of Gutter Guards
The only real disadvantage of a gutter guard system is the initial investment. The LeafBlaster Pro gutter guard system costs a little more than the EZ Gutter Screen Lock system. Contact us for a free consultation and estimate.
