Replaced Exposed Fastener Metal Roof for Boulder, Colorado Homeowner

October 31, 2017

new house roof Boulder Colorado exposed fastener metal

We replaced this exposed fastener metal roof earlier in the Summer of 2017 for a homeowner outside of Boulder, Colorado. It was a Flatiron Steel 26-gauge green TufRib panel. The homeowner decided they wanted a blue one instead. Luckily, we were able to install the new flashing behind the siding without causing any damage to the siding.

Why a Metal Roof

A metal roof is great in the mountains of Colorado, such as where this one is outside of Boulder, CO. Why? There are two main reasons: fire resistance and snow shedding. Unfortunately, forest fires are real. Just this year, the Logan fire burned over 32,000 acres, and the Peekaboo fire burned over 12,000 acres. Living in the woods has its perks – the wildlife, solitude, sights, and sounds. However, it also comes with downsides, such as the risk of forest fires. Metal roofs are among the most fire-resistant roofs available today.

The mountains also get a lot of snow – sometimes more than a foot of snow in one storm. Sheet metal roofs, such as this one we installed for this homeowner outside of Boulder, CO, shed heavy snowfall quickly. Asphalt shingles, by comparison, tend to hang on to snow, which makes the roof very heavy.

Highly Energy-Efficient

Another advantage of sheet metal roofs is that they help to cool your home. In fact, they’re the coolest, most energy-efficient roof covering you can get today. That’s because it has the highest solar reflectivity value (SRI). Asphalt shingles have an SRI of only .15. Sheet metal roofing has an SRI of .67, which is better than clay tiles. A sheet-metal roof will also lower the temperature in your attic by about 20º.

If you’re looking for a roof replacement in Boulder, CO, consider a new metal roof. Not only do we offer ribbed profiles, but we also offer standing seam, which might be more appropriate in town. We offer a 5-year workmanship warranty on all roof installations and offer free inspections and estimates.
